I’m still tired so I get a late start today.
I’m still working on my itinerary and feeling overwhelmed with so many options and so little time. On top of that, my AAA guide book shows Greece’s city names with the English spelling, while the AAA map shows city names with the Greek spelling. This makes it frustrating to figure out where I’m going.
I decide to go to the Acropolis. On the map it doesn’t look that far, so I walk. Along the way, I pass by open air fish and meat markets, and the town hall.
It takes about 25 minutes to walk to the area at the base of the Acropolis. There are a couple of small archaeological sites in this area, so I check them out. When I start to head up to the Acropolis, a ticket taker at one of the sites says it’s too late. It’s 5 pm; the Acropolis closes at 5:30 and it’s about a 20 minute walk up the steps. So, I walk around the Monastiraki and Plaka areas, a historic and charming area of town. On the other side of the Plaka area is the Parliament and another political rally.
It’s getting dark and late, so I head back to my hotel. ~
