Let’s face it, no matter how much fun you’re having, travel is stressful. In addition to jet lag, you’re in an unfamiliar environment – different culture, language, surroundings, food, etc. Most likely, your daily routine is very different from what you’re used to, especially if you’re walking more, changing locations frequently and packing/unpacking. Add to that the challenge of traveling alone or traveling with others. As exhilarating as it all is, it can wear you out!
When planning your travel, allow for some down time. No need to schedule every minute or every day. A good rule of thumb is, for every 5-7 days of travel, have one day to just relax. This is a great time to sleep in, casually explore your neighborhood, journal, write home, do some laundry, nap, or whatever helps you relax. You don’t need to schedule the exact day, just allow enough time in your schedule for a day off when you need it. The key is to slowdown and enjoy.
When you travel, how do you relax or de-stress?
