With school starting and ads for school supplies everywhere, I wanted to share my solution for a travel make-up container.
When I first started traveling, my make-up bag was made of cloth. It was a half-circle shape with two sections, two zippers to close and two handles at the top. It was long and tall, but vertically narrow, causing two problems: it was difficult to see what was in it without taking everything out and small items would settle in the very bottom, making them challenging to find.
Searching for an alternative, I stumbled on a school pencil box. It measures about 8” x 5” x 2”, with the top almost as deep as the bottom, allowing both sides to hold about the same amount. I like it because it folds flat when open, it is easy to see almost everything at a glance, it’s easy to access everything, if something leaks or spills it’s easy to clean and, because of its sturdy structure, it can be used in a pinch to pack and protect small fragile items. Opened flat, it also fits in my vanity’s center drawer at home.
If you have a packing challenge, look around. You never know where you’ll find a practical alternative.
